Speaking english, is very different from reading/writing english, this is pretty ridiculous.

I didn't know signs or digital message boards warning drivers of something ahead spoke to you.

A lot of folks think anyone with legal status as a US citizen should be able to speak English...wonder what would happen if they decided any citizen had to learn a Native American language, cuz after all, they were here first. Same hypocracy. IMO, as long as a person can function in society, it shouldn't matter what language they spoke. I do think signs, menus, etc. should be in both English and Spanish though..because quite a few states originated with settlements of Spanish..and I think Spanish should rightfully be recognized as an official American language as well. Around here you don't see a whole lot of Spanish speaking people, but in the Southwest you do..and that's part of the US too.

It may be...and if so then these "English Only" laws need to be ruled unconstitutional and thrown out....and these state legislatures need to quit wasting taxpayer dollars spending time trying to craft these bills, and work on legislation that will actually help instead of laws that encourage bigotry and division.

As in how though? There's no official language as far as I know, do you mean the 2nd language by de facto?

And signs are defined by color and shape also, even when a message board is up, it has other signs leading up to it. My point was him declaring it's a "english speaking" state, when it's a matter of reading and writing, which a lot of "americans" have a problem with. Learning to read and write english, for anyone, is very, very hard...esp. someone who learned another language first and definitely harder than just speaking english.

Not always does a message board have other signs leading up to it. More and more message boards are being placed on highways permanently for quicker info updates on wrecks, construction, and abductions. English is a complicated language but lets no forget about many Europeans who have learned English as a second or third language already, so its not like it is impossible. I admire anyone who comes to our country and works to become a citizen.
